Another year of record nominations at the Security Excellence Awards

For the second successive year FGH Security has been nominated more times at the Ifsec Security and Fire Excellence Awards than any other security company in the UK. Peter Harrison, FGH Managing Director, said, “I’m exceptionally proud that for the second year in a row we have been recognised as trailblazers in the security industry. This will be the sixth consecutive year we have attended the awards, during which time we have been finalists in more categories than any other company in the UK.   These nominations are testament to the dedication and commitment of our team.”

The awards acknowledge and uphold best practice in all areas of the security industry. They are widely regarded as the industry’s version of the Oscars. The finalists and eventual winners of each of the thirty two categories are chosen by an independent panel of industry experts. FGH Security have been elected  as finalists in five categories so far; Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Year, Customer Care Initiative of the Year, Event Security Team of the Year, Security Guarding Company of the Year and Security Training Initiative of the Year.

Our Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Year nomination acknowledged the recent redesign of our procurement programme. An audit of company procedures revealed that our procurement processes were letting us down. With this in mind our procurement programme was rebuilt from root with an emphasis on procuring ethical and quality items in a timely fashion. FGH also requested feedback from customers and staff regarding the items that they would like to see used and worn by FGH. This feedback has resulted in bespoke kit being issued to clients such as Trof and to events such as Manchester Pride and Festival No.6.

The Customer Care Initiative of the Year Award nomination looked at the difference the #Tentwatch scheme made to the Kendal Calling festival. The scheme uses a range of integrated advertising, marketing and social media initiatives to help make festival goers aware of the risks of leaving valuable items in their tents and encourage a community atmosphere where attendees looked after each other.  Kendal Calling 2015 was the second outing for the #Tentwatch scheme but the impact at this year’s festival was emphasised because visitor numbers to the event had increased by  5,000 but instances of theft were at only 10% of the 2013 levels. The Tentwatch scheme also helped make us aware of other instances of criminal behaviour and as a result promote the safety of all festival goers.

Our Event Security Team of the Year submission this year highlighted the exceptional service delivery that FGH offers, and the proactive relationship we forge with our clients to find practical and achievable solutions to issues. This year saw the addition of Parklife to our events portfolio. FGH Security formed part of the community impact team whose role was to minimise the disruption to the local community by the event and act as a deterrent to anti-social behaviour.  As a result of our roaming and static security teams over 900 instances of challenging unacceptable behaviour were logged and complaints reduced dramatically based on the previous year.

The Security Guarding Company of the Year nomination showcases the company’s use of technology to improve service delivery within our guarding sector. This includes the use of patrol management software which traces our operatives’ patrol routes in real time, using scans from QR codes. This software also performs a welfare function, allowing  guards to perform regular check calls to communicate that there are no issues with the site and themselves, as well as send distress calls if needed. FGH has also pioneered the use of body worn cameras for sites where there is the potential for conflict and have upgraded the mobile phones across all sites to ensure that our sites and staff have the best of the best.

Our talent management programme was nominated for Security Training Initiative of the Year. The scheme seeks to secure and develop the skills set of high potential individuals. The nomination not only acknowledges the benefits of this to the workforce but also to the clients we serve. It ensures that we are able to deploy the best trained, customer-service focused teams to all our venues, sites and events.  This award can be seen as a commendation of the time, finances and resources that FGH invests in to its staff, our key assets.

The nominees for SIA  ACS champion of the year are still being debated. FGH is hoping for a clean sweep with a nomination is this category. You can be sure that you will hear it here first as and when the finalists for this category are announced.
