CHRISTMAS TOY APPEAL

4 MINUTES READING TIME

7. Be the benchmark for others & set new norms of behaviour

In 2016 we will again not be sending out any Christmas cards or buying any customers gifts. Instead we made donations to several local charities across the community we work in.

We partnered with Wood Street Mission (Greater Manchester), the Bay Radio (North Lancashire and South Cumbria), Rock FM (Lancashire) and made donations to their Christmas toy appeals. In total, we bought over £3,000 worth of toys for children who may otherwise have had nothing on Christmas day. We wanted to buy a £10 toy for each permanent member of the FGH team. It represents our commitment to our belief of finding new ways of giving back to society. We hope that as our team continues to grow then we can sustainably afford to increase our giving efforts. Before we bought any toys, we did some fact-finding work with the charities initially and found out which demographics were short on donations and if there were any types of presents they were short of. For example, in Greater Manchester this was sports kits for teenagers whereas in South Lakeland and Barrow-in-Furness it was books.

You’ll see from the pictures that our team have been out in force over the past few weeks delivering a range of gifts by the van load and managing to lend a helping hand at each of the causes donation centres at the same time.

Peter Harrison, Managing Director, said, “It’s been a real privilege to get involved with such rewarding causes. It was also fantastic for the FGH team to get to meet first hand some of the recipients and various charities. It was humbling to play a part in the process and see so much generosity and love. What touched me most was seeing an elderly man drop off gifts at The Bay Radio’s collection. He had big holes in his trainers and walked in with a bag of toys and commented “I came into town for new shoes today but when I saw your appeal I decided I can wait until January to buy them”. It brought a tear of joy to my eye. As always, we could not do any of this without all the support from our quality customers and the hard work the FGH team put in. Thank you everyone.”

May we take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas.
