Today our Security Manager, Lewis Walsh, collected his commendation for the part he and FGH Security played in delivering the successful crowd management and security operation for last years Liverpool Giants Event.

The commendation was received at Aintree Racecourse at 13:00 on Friday 13th September 2019, presented by the Chief Constable.

Lewis Walsh Commendation

Commendations are awarded to those who have been recognised for professionalism, dedication, bravery and outstanding contributions to policing.

Below is the wording for the commendation submission for reference from Superintendent Mark Morgan:

“Having previously hosted 3 like events, Royal de Luxe returned in 2018 with Liverpool’s Dream.

The complex Giants events span several days, mixing static sites and processions, travelling through residential/retail areas, parks, open spaces and along waterways, utilising buildings and public highways.

Over several months, those commended worked extensively with partners, developing an extensive range of deployment plans, contingency / logistical considerations, addressing potential implications for the region and supported event organisers in addressing matters of public safety and resilience.

The event between 4th and 7th October saw over 500 officers deployed to support event organisers.  Circa 1.3 million people attended and generated a massive £60.6m for the local economies.  International media coverage was overwhelmingly positive.

Police and partners dealt with effective crowd management, arrests of ‘free runners’, a stolen HGV and aggressive use of vehicles in a crowded place, several missing persons, LFC v Man City, protests and a murder, all adding to the complexities and force resilience.

Despite huge crowds, there were no reported injuries or increase in crime, whilst the wider force resilience and ability to respond to ‘calls for service’ wasn’t adversely affected. A huge amount of positive public engagement has been seen.”

“Being awarded a Chief Constables Commendation for our work in delivering the crowd management and security operation at the Liverpool Giants is indeed a great honour, I couldn’t be prouder of the team not only on the ground but everyone involved in the office. The commendation has certainly cemented this great event in FGH Security history and everyone should be very proud of their contribution.

A special mention must go to the following people who through there on the ground leadership helped create this unforgettable event:

Fran Butterfield, Craig McCoy, Nathan McKinley, Jon Topping and Michelle Christy who played their parts along the route, Steve Christy who looked after the crowd management queuing operation at Lime Street Station. Jess Spencer and Emma Jenkins who were our controllers in Police HQ with myself, the list of people is endless.

I would also like to thank, Culture Liverpool, Liverpool City Council, Wirral Council, Merseyside Police, Event Design and The Event Safety Shop.
