On Sunday 2nd June 2019 an estimated 750,000 supporters enjoyed Liverpool’s Champions League victory parade after Jurgen Klopp’s team were crowned European Champions for a sixth time after beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in Madrid on Saturday.

The people of Liverpool made sure the champions received nothing but a hero’s welcome by lining the parade route to get a glimpse of the bus carrying their team, manager and trophy. The live updates of the parade reached millions of people around the world and featured the integral role FGH played in securing the route. Our team were also featured on the front page of The Times and Daily Express showing them ensuring the integrity of the protective bubble surrounding the bus.

The operation also saw our team working strategically alongside Merseyside Police, Liverpool City Council and Culture Liverpool. The route itself covered more than 8 miles and culminated with tens of thousands lining the Strand as the bus passed the iconic Liver Building and the Albert Dock.

Lewis Walsh, Head of Security and Crowd Management said, ‘On Sunday we had the privilege to provide the security and crowd management operation for the homecoming of Liverpool Football Club to celebrate their victory in the Campions League Final against Tottenham Hotspur.

The operation saw 226 staff deployed at strategic points across the city and in the protection bubble around the players, officials and press buses within the parade. The strategic goal of the operation was to deliver a safe a secure environment for not only the players, parade but for the 750,000 fans who turned up to welcome their heroes home.

The event went without any serious incident and was hailed a success by LFC, Liverpool City Council and Merseyside Police. I would like to thank the security team on the ground and the thousands of fans that waited patiently to see their team bring the trophy home.’

Claire McColgan, Director of Culture Liverpool, said, ‘I truly don’t know where to start……….. but I know how to end, that is to end in saying a huge, massive, gigantic thank you to you and your team in helping deliver a parade that will live long in the memories of the thousands of people who lined the parade route.  That’s not to mention the thousands who greeted the parade in the city and the countless thousands who watched it on the TV and social media. It would not have been the success it was without the dedication and commitment of all teams working together and your help in making that happen is very much appreciated. Here’s to the next one!’
