Project Griffin Counter-Terrorism Workshops

security-company-working-with-police-constabulariesProject Griffin was originally developed by the City of London Police and formally introduced in April 2004 as a joint venture between the City and Metropolitan police forces. It has subsequently be adopted by a number of constabularies across the country. Its key aim is to advise and familiarise managers, security officers and employees of large public and private sector organisations across the country on security, counter-terrorism and crime prevention issues.

Working in partnership with both Lancashire Constabulary and Greater Manchester Police FGH Security supervisory staff took part in detailed workshops yesterday. The first was held at our Head Offices in Lancaster and was led by a representative from Lancashire Constabulary and the second was held at Greater Manchester Police Headquarters. Both events saw supervisors from across our Security Guarding, Door Supervision and Event Security divisions attending and it allowed the content to be tailored to a range of unique operational environments and situations. Each workshop also covered improving understanding of the terrorist threat level system, explosives and identifying devices, behavioural patterns, evacuation plans and cordon management.

“I attended the Manchester event and I thought the level of content and detail was excellent,” explained Alex Redman (Operations Manager). “It also allowed us to gain a good insight about how the emergency services deal with incidents of this nature and our role in assisting them wherever possible, from initial detection and intelligence through to large scale evacuation. It was excellent to have a Police Search Adviser (PolSA) speak about search techniques in detail. Also the number of staff who attended both sessions shows how seriously we take counter-terrorism across the company and the buy our staff on an individual level.”

Becky Webster (Training Manager) attended the Lancaster workshop and said, “I’d like to thank all of the staff who made the effort to attend on the day. As a group there were a number of excellent points raised and the day as a whole will allow us to refine our training even more which will benefit our staff and our clients directly.”
